A Layman's Guide to Dallas Arts, Entertainment, Restaurants and etc... by Ruthellen

We had heard of Popolos and decided to give it a try.   The emphasis is on light fare with a California-Mediterranean touch.  Butter or cream is not part of the program, all that nasty artery clogging stuff that many of us (myself included) love.  I liked the restaurant as soon as I walked through the door.  Its not a large place, but sooo cozy and reminds me of another one of these restaurants in the city that I am always referring to.  It must be the Italian touch. There were six of us in all.  Actually we were meeting my son's girlfriend's parents for the first time.  No Pressure here.  After seating, the server greeted us with a friendly smile and menus.  She took our drink orders.  Water and bread followed shortly.  We sipped and chatted for a few minutes.  Upon ordering we all started out with salads.  I got the Popolo which consisted of mixed baby greens with a light vinaigrette dressing.  Another salad ordered by our companions was the Cesear, which I was told was delicious.  The salads were very crisp and fresh and just the right amount of dressing.  For my entree I ordered Grilled Trout with Mashed Potatoes and Fresh Spinach.  Other items ordered were Mixed Seafood Grill served with Mashed Potatoes and Spinach, Black Angus Steak served with Grilled Potatoes and Vegetables (one of the few meats on the menu), Salmon served with Mashed Potatoes and Spinach and Sea Bass served with couscous and vegetables.  My entree was wonderful.  The grilled fish was perfect, as were the mashed potatoes, made without cream and butter and so flavorful.  The spinach was cooked just right.  Everyone liked their food.  For dessert Fresh Strawberries and Blueberries served over Angel Food Cake with a Sauce and a Chocolate Cheesecake.  They were delicious and very light.  Other items on the menu are Salads, Pizza, Pastas, Veal and Poultry.  Appetizers are offered.  Everything all looked so good.  Therefore a trip back to Popolos will be in order.  It's great to eat so well and know its healthy.  Oh yes, we liked the girlfriend's parents, a very nice evening.
